The Ecazi shuttle had to wait a bit before landing because of the increased security caused by the royal parties arrival. na-Count Simon watied patiently and pondered on the purpose behind this visit. From his own families experiences he could sympathize with the Alexin to a degree. Sympathy was not enough however to urge his father to lend them any support when they were in so much jeopardy just a few years ago. In fact, there were times that their own future had been in doubt without sticking their necks out for strangers.

That was the past though and young Simon as always liked to look towards the future. Much like Gangishree this world of Gansireed held much potential. Just how far had the young Alexin leader gone to turning it into a profitable venture. Perhaps she would even like some advice on the matter since House Ecaz was turning into quite the experts on building economies from nothing. It was certainly something to consider, and could lead to a profit making venture for both parties.

Soon enough the royal party had advanced, though Simon couldnt yet see who his Imperial cousines had sent to represent themselves. It was now his turn to present himself to their hosts. Approaching the dignitary who was greeting the visiting nobles he let his courtier present him to their hosts.

"Milord," the servant bowed. "Allow me to present na-Count Simon Ecaz."

With the social forms followed he stepped forward and offered a courtious nod, waiting to be recognized.

Since his return from Kaitain the younger of the Alexin siblings had been surprised by how much his views of the planet had changed. He'd left Gansireed terrified by the thought of the Imperial homeworld, yet now he found himself disdainful of the untamed world. Even his relationship with his sister, with whom he had once been extremely close (the loss of their father and brother had made a strong relationship between them a necessity), seemed to have changed in ways he couldn't define.

Despite having arrived on the planet a few days earlier, he was bored with the underdeveloped wretched world that existed on the edge of poverty in the galactic backwaters and had resolved to return to Kaitain via the next guildship.

Not for the first time he wondered what things would be like if he had been the elder sibling, could he have done better? He thought so, but wasn't sure. Despite his loathing for the planet he had begun to second guess the actions of the Baroness.

On Kaitain a man could live a happy life, from the pleasure gardens that littered the southern hemisphere to the refinement of the Imperial philharmonic orchestra he was never short of entertainment. Had he been 'running the show' he would have encouraged the growth of such ventures on Gansireed, instead of wasting so much money on housing the pyons and other liberal projects.

As he paced around the starport, waiting for guests to greet, he sported one of his more expensive outfits. A white shirt, patterned with ornate gold-coated thread that wove itself into fantastically elaborate patterns, frilly white collar, a gold coloured silk cloak with small diamonds worked into the fabric and pants to match the shirt. As with all of his expenses he was reimbursed the cost of the outfit by his sister.

Like many diplomats he was prone to fiddling his expenses list to cover the cost of one or two luxuries. If he was remembering rightly, this outfit had gone down as the cost of s a luncheon with wealthy businessmen who may or may not invest in Gansireed and as several bribes. He didn't feel any guilt for scamming money out of his own House, in fact he felt it was worth it. After all, He looked splendid and was confident he would make a good impression on anyone he met.

When the Imperial delegation arrived he knew it would be a few minutes before the Baroness would turn up to greet the princess. At the time he couldn't have said what force compelled him towards the princess, but he did. In fact he ran down the empty corridors. As hurriedly made his way down a corridor he noticed the troop of guardsmen the Lady of the House would use as an escort for the princess Irulan.

He was at least two foot from the thirty men he stopped dead and snapped “Follow me” over his shoulder. He may not have been on the planet for a while, but most people still recognised him from his coming of age celebrations a few years earlier, and so the troop naturally fell in behind him.

The young man strode confidently through the final few corridors and into the imperial presence and imagined he made an impressive figure. Dressed in gold, diamonds reflecting any light to give the illusion he glowed and at the head of thirty uniformed soldiers. Each man had fell into position and marched in perfect synch with his comrades. Each wore a crisp rust coloured uniform with a tangelo coloured sash and silver metal scabbards at their sides.

The young nobleman strode towards the princess and dropped to one knee with a flourish of his cloak and a reverent bow of the head. The princess instructed him to rise, moving as elegantly as possible, he snapped his fingers by way of instruction for the troop of men to assume their position around the Sardukar troops. The Alexin troops caused a slight stir as they pulled their rapiers from their scabbards and held them vertically before them, probably under prior instructions from the Baroness or that oafish Ludwig – a crude attempt at theatrical flare.

“Princess, please accept our humblest greetings. I am Anton Alexin, I've had the honour of being in your presence during sessions of congress. The Baroness is on her way to greet you but the thought of your grace waiting all alone was intolerable!”. Taking in the sight of the princess he felt a masculine stirring that would be inappropriate on this occasion, so he hurriedly continued, “So I have assumed the honour of greeting you myself”.

As he spoke he became dimly aware of just why he had rushed ahead of the Baroness, he wanted to be the Baron, and the favour of the Imperial princess was an excellent first step towards that goal. While his words spewed out he promised himself that when Shaddam forced his sister to step aside for the man of the House, he would leave his sister to run the back water world while he lived on Kaitain.

The golden plated shuttle bearing the Corrino lion landed on the Alexin spaceport with all the majesty of a phoenix rising from its own ashes. The world was barren – forests upon forests with recent signs of construction; scared land where trees had been torn down and the skeletal structure of a city slowly taking shape.

The ramp lowered with a thud and 10 Sardaukar, their dark purple uniforms reflecting the sun, clearly heavily armed (as always), marched down the ramp in perfect sync and formation. In the middle, wearing a golden flowing robe, strode Princess Irulan Corrino. Despite the pressures of recent years, the food shortage crises, the CHOAM debacle and political scheming of House Poritrin, constant alliance changes, she still looked as young and stunning as ever.

The impressive sight of the Imperial family group caught the attention of the spaceport staff. An Alexin official quickly ran over and offered a low bow.

“My Lady, you honour us with your presence”

“Indeed,” She replied, waving her hand for him to rise. “Please inform Lady Alexin that House Corrino has arrived as per her invitation.”

I'd encourage anyone who has some spare time to dip in to the Alexin roleplay venture in the Happy Hour forum, just to get back up to scratch with things. It's all off the record; what happens won't affect the game itself so by all means use your characters and get back up to speed with writing if you are able to do so.

In the meantime I'm still ploughing on with things: I'm working on two aspects of the revamp right now:

1. Translation of faction statistics into the new ruleset. This has been quite time consuming and isn't as easy as you'd think: industrial income, and determining the levels of things like planetary infrastructure, portus, spaceports and cultural quarters, are all new. This is nearing completion.

2. Development of data visualisation to enable statistics to be interactive. This will replace a 'Planets' webpage and a 'Factions' webpage. The Factions page has, as you will see, already been updated in advance of this change so it's primarily a dramatis personæ now. In terms of faction stats; this is where I'm encountering problems because any visualisation can only be limited permissions-wise to the roles of website visitors. In other words, if faction ratings are to be useful and interactive, they will be available to all other players. I don't want to maintain 20 odd individual spreadsheets plus a central spreadsheet any longer - it's not feasible. So this is why there have been delays whilst I've been figuring out workarounds to try to keep definitive ratings secret, but provide some useful and maintenance-free stats to other players.

The top two priorities on the "to do" list are:

1. Finalise the denouement; ideally, and the original intent was to produce this, as a synthesis - however this may not be practical time-wise so it may be either a blow-by-blow account by faction name, or overarching stories with involved factions highlighted in bold for ease of reference.

2. Finalise the structured action sets: these are 'all' that remain for completion of the rulebook. That said, there is a LOT of work to do in this respect. So far the Domestic actions are nearing completion, and the framework for Foreign actions is ready for fleshing out. This leaves Military (Conventional, Wars of Assassins, and Kanly), and Political (Landsraad and Sysselraad) action sets. Spice is dealt with by a new purchasing round system and pick trading is handled by an action in the Domestic -> Economic Policy section.

Hey, I thought it'd be fun to get back into the swing of RPing and wrote a short scenario for us to freeform RP. Anyone who wants to take part is more than welcome and any curve balls (from players or the GC) is more than welcome .

Barely three years had passed since the Alexin refugees had fled Eirdanos, but to the young matriarch of the Alexin people it felt like a lifetime. The turbulent event that were so recent seemed ancient. At first she'd missed her homeland, she'd missed her servants, the wildlife, the fauna, in fact she'd missed far more than she had every appreciated but those feelings had subsided after a few short months. As the months continued their march towards eternity she and her people had found within them a cautious optimism.

The virgin world offered lush, untamed forest ripe for exploration, entire still remained unexplored and the local wildlife didn't fear or flee man. She had issued a proclamation declaring that any unnecessary harm that befell an animal was punishable by law in the hope of maintaining the trust of the local wildlife for as long as possible.

The proclamation had been partially successful and thanks to that it was not uncommon to see wildlife near the capital town and in the few rural settlements that existed it was still common to see animals similar to horses and other such creatures walk through the streets and although time would eliminate the tenuous trust the of the local wildlife it would be nice while it lasted.

Despite the rural way of life her people lived, the Baroness battled the rural mentality whenever possible; she wanted her people to know how very large the galaxy was, and how very small they were. She didn't need them to fear her, they had chosen to come to this planet with her but she also knew that over time their loyalties may change and keeping them in fear of the encircling universe may help keep them loyal to her.

In an effort to cement her position as a stable and permanent feature of the Imperium and, to lay the foundations for future alliances the Baroness had instructed her younger brother (who had been placed in the landsraad as a junior envoy) to invite all and sundry to Gansireed for the official naming of the planetary capital. Her younger brother Anton, under the careful guidance of an experience diplomat had even went as far as to extend an invitation to the Imperial household, to whom the town was dedicated.

It was, she hoped, to be an historic day. The ceremonial founding of a town that would blossom into a city which would spawn an empire within the Imperium. Some day, maybe as far away as a thousand years from now, her bloodline would rule a hundred worlds and would be the right hand of the ruling Corrino.

It was in that spirit that she had chosen the name Corrxin. The name lacked the dulcet quality she felt the planet deserved. When she thought of her new world she could hear music and see wonderful sunsets but try as she might, she had came up with nothing better. Corrxin represented the union and subservience her house would always have towards the Corrino and so she'd stuck with it.

Dressed in a modest blue dress the young Baroness waited for her guests to arrive. Already, somewhere within the town, a band was playing sweet music to help mark the occasion. She had declared today a day of celebration and provided for parties, games and entertainment within the town. The house garrison had scoured every inch of the town and several individuals who still had strong feelings about the Aiantians had been taken into custody, just in case. 'thopers flew over head in spectacular displays of military prowess but each was filled with a loyal and obedient pilot who would help deal with any situation that should arise and guests who had any concerns over their own safety were invited to bring a small detachment of their own troops, she had even gone as far as providing some Houses a broad overview of the security arrangements to reassure them.

Now all that remained, was for her guests to arrive.

Actually, if you read Queen Victoria's wikipedia page you would have known she never said "We're not amused."

It is quite a coincidence I happened to be looking at that page earlier today otherwise I wouldn't have known!

I've had a bit of a lazy morning today and fancied reading some of my older posts (and was shocked by my grammar! I seriously need to proof read things) and I came across the most wonderfully flamboyant post I have ever saw in the Duneiverse:

House Aiantis wrote:Double standard, hah! I spit on your standards and I shall use them to wipe your blood off my blade. And yes! Let the Speaker ban me for that statement for I know it fully well to be poor conduct!

Also can House Corrino please contact me regarding the marraige contract between myself and House Poritrin which you confirm is in effect here:http://www.dunepbem.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=130&t=1792&start=30

When you say:

House Corrino wrote:And, since House Poritrin has broken the silence, the Throne can confirm that a marriage contract between Poritrin and Alexin is indeed in effect.

I had completely forgotten about the marriage contract and would be really grateful if you could PM me the details so that I can pass them onto the GC. Apologies to the GC for not including this in my summary, but I really had forgotten all about it!

It really isn't worth it, in my book. Especially the more fancier versions. Just get a touch phone (maybe a bit more expensive) and download the application. Ta-da. I bought the most expensive one and - I swear - I used it three times.

And Aiantis, it's like Emilio Esteves said in young guns 2 'You killed a boy" (he delivers in a more emotional tone than our little medium can convey and, annoyingly, I couldn't find a youtube clip)... So that's kinda why you may be percieved as a bit of a nasty fella... Oh and you took his family's planet... Effectively making his young sister and even younger brother homeless... On the plus though you're a style icon. I even heard intergalactic Vogue are gonna do a piece on you!
