Have fun. Don't do anything I would.

RP - Seeking the Wealth

Wed, 07/28/2010 - 11:39
by House Corrino (Posted July 28th, 2010, 12:39 pm)
Title: Seeking the Wealth
Type of RP: Internal

Story:

Food. Here on Kaitain no one had to go without it, grand balls and celebrations were held daily and the amount of food consumed could feed three planets. No one ever had to starve on the Imperial capitol, no one ever out of reach of the goods. And yet, in the vastness of the Corrino Empire, many were experiencing just that.

Food was becoming scarce in some places, outright rare in others. Like the munitions situation a few months ago, Houses seemed to be buying all food up and stockpiling - leaving the general masses without any sort of goods. It was wrong in so many ways, and yet CHOAM was once again trapped in red-tape. No side could agree on a resolution to help investigate the stockpilers nor bring them to justice.

And so Shaddam was forced to take actions himself, to bypass the red-tape and CHOAM. The low levels peons and their deaths on his worlds did not concern him, they were expendable and bred like wild fire as is. But it was easy for the Landsraad to turn around and accuse the Emperor of failing to protect the Empire from this crises. Yes he had to act.

"Summon every House Minor noble to Kaitain that is known to be able to produce food goods, be it without a CHOAM charter or with one. Inform them their Emperor demands their presence within three days. Also state that Imperial House Corrino wishes to procure as much food product as possible, for 10s per silo."

The messenger nodded and left for the next Guild shuttle.

If no one else would act on this crises, then Shaddam would.

Summary:
  • Shaddam commands all House Minor nobles, who's planets can produce food, to come to Kaitain for a Royal Court meeting.
  • The message shall include details of the meeting and the fact House Corrino shall purchase a silo of food for 10s each.

RP - Operation Perseus

Title:Operation Perseus

Approved. This may continue to be written as the player deems necessary.
The Sarduakar battalion is deployed in accordance with intelligence that pointed a hotbed of rebel activity to a large town that was once well known for its high yeild of foodstuffs, contributing significantly to the Eirdanos foodstuffs industry. Mostly a farming community, the youths of the town had become prey to rebel propaganda and began to rail against even the rebel nobles who accepted Aiantisian rule, preferring instead an idealised community of power and democracy. Where exactly these ideals sprung from is unsure, but the ideas were quickly spread amongst the isolated and poorly educated and frustated youth of the town.

The idolisation of a communal power was promptly eradicated however with the deadly efficieny of the Sarduakar battalion that was able to destroy most of the town and every resident within a matter of 72hrs. The death toll reaching 8,145, not a single Sarduakar was killed in the action with the farming community being of no match to the abilities, training and technology of The Emperor's shocktroops.

The result however has been precise, with violence across Eirdanos taking a sharp dive, and with the many town's communities themselves now reporting, capturing and handing over family members to the House Aiantis guard within days of the attack as news spread, preferring Aiantis punishment and re-education to the total destruction of towns by the Emperor's ubiquitously feared troops.

House Corrino gains +2 to its military category pool.

Reviewing the candidates eligible for promotion from within the Aiantis House Guard, the Marquis is presented with a number of options and career specialisations to choose from. Of note however is an older officer that exceeds the average age of the other candidates by ten years; Agar Menmon. An officer with a long career with House Aiantis and a reputation as a strong and capable tactician, but a reputation marred by his disregard for both his troops and acceptable Aiantis practice. Eligible for promotion due to his lengthy service, some advisors are wary of the Marquis appointing an unpopular albiet extremely capable field commander to the role of Warmaster.

  • House Aiantis may choose to create its own Warmaster with duel rating to be determined by 2d4
  • Or appoint Agar Menmon to the position with the trait Decisive Tactician (+1 to Military actions when present), a duel rating determined by 2d4-2 due to age, and possible unrest amongst the House Guard.

Whilst the protoype weapons produced do function on a basic level, their quality and reliability remains far from the level of being an Imperial Grade export. The factories for weapon production are completed, and initial batches of the prototype weapons themselves are only produced for machine testing and quality control assessments, the report of which indicates that the factories are of barely acceptable capability to produce a quality utlimately expected of the Imperium for weapons, and the workforce itself remains poorly trained. Mentats suggest that addressing the level of workforce training will require trial and error over time, or the assistance of a House that already maintains an Imperium Grade munitions industry, but given House Aiantis wishes to compete with such a market, careful negotiation would likely be required, or clandestine tactics used to obtain such information.

The test batches are reviewed by House Guard who promptly reject the possibility of using the weapons, particularly the widespread use of lasguns which are viewed as extremely dangerous and rather antiquated since the invention of the Holtzman personal shield where lasgun use in battle fell out of favour hundreds of years ago. Further research, funding, time and expertise will be required to be able to produce weapons that will stand up to the rigors of combat, but little else can be done to improve those facets at this point in time until specific munitions industry knowledge is acquired to enable for expert reviews and development into an Imperial Grade industry.

House Aiantis gains +1 to its Economy category pool.

The shift in direction on Eirdanos from subjugation to investment in industry is a welcome change of tempo for the ruling nobles, accepting that House Aiantis is more willing to invest in the agricultural industry to make profits from it. The more astute nobles understand that profits for the House also mean profits for themselves, and the chance of acquiring more lands as others fails presents opportunities for the more disreputable nobles to sabotage others, but on the flip side the more moderate nobles are concerned with the cuthroat environment that House Aiantis is imposing throughout the fief. None the less, all of the nobles have submit resource reports outlining the level of support required for their individual lands to rebuild the agricultural industry.

Analysis by Mentats indicates that the restoration of Eirdanos' foodstuff's industry would require an investment of 112,000 solarii (112s) and 5 units of Industrial Components to begin the restoration of the damaged, destroyed and abandoned fields throughout Eirdanos, original optimistic estimates predicted a return to full operation of the Imperial Grade Foodstuffs industry in 4 months (2 turns), the recent destruction of an entire agricultural town by the Sarduakar will push the resurrection of the agricultural industry to 6 months (3 turns).

The trial of the former and short lived Governor-General of Eirdanos was a spectacle in the Eirdanos courts as the selected noble jurors listened to the evidence presented by the defence and prosecution. While the lands had been given back to the Chazaret family and compensation paid for the assassination, a case presented to the Court of the First Instance was only narrowly avoided by House Aiantis which would have undoubtedly resulted in unwanted attention from the Landsraad.

Lasting a week in duration, the verdict was entirely predictable; guilty. The one saving grace for the scape-goat of Stukov was the inability for the jury to meet a full consensus on the death penalty, thus the punishment being 15 years of imprisonment in one of the Eirdanos-wide renown prisons founded by the dwindling Alexin regime, truly a place of horror in which execution would seem more human by contrast. The trial, permitted to run its course and the acceptance and application of law by House Aiantis has gone some way to ensuring the nobles of Eirdanos feel as though Aiantisian rule will be subject to due process, and not an entirely corrupt regime.

House Aiantis gains +2 to its Domestic Respect category pool.

The Order of the Mentats representative furrows a brow at the suggestion of the prices being negotiable, and quickly quips that the prices are not negotiable with House Alexin in such a weakened state. Percival Modnar will come with the Market Economist trait (+1 to economic RPs). Kritophe's record shows no abnormalities, and the Order of Mentats is highly offended by the implication that one of the offered graduates is a threat to House Alexin.

GM Note: The GMs will not be placing a Primary Five or Service character into anyone's House that will be a threat to that House or its personnel. That is not the purpose of the Primary Five, and the only risk with the Primary Five and Service Characters pose towards any faction is in the form of outrageous or perilous actions undertaken by the House.

With the allocation of resources, the construction of the first major settlement on Gansireed has begun construction and engineers predict that a basic settlement of community shelters, wells and small warehouses was initially planned to be completed after a further 2 months (1 turn), however this has been delayed by rising issues. Whilst the construction has proceeded with relatively little issue to begin with, Doctors are alarmed by the absence of allocated foodstuffs for the population that has arrived on Gansireed, particularly after Mentats advised the Alexin family that food was required to be allocated. The majority of the population has begun to show signs and symptons of early starvation, and Doctors flatly warn that House Alexin cannot afford to lose any of its already miniscule population, and that if not addressed immediately, there will be a large number of deaths.

Military advisors warn that on Gansireed, with no static defences, starving soldiers, and a starving population, that should another uprising begin, it will spell the complete collapse of the House Guard. With increased fatigue and numbers of sick on the construction project, estimated time to completion has been delayed and revised project plans will see the settlement completed in a further 4 months (2 turns).

Although the general idea of the plan to shore up security against Tleilaxu infiltration is agreed to by House Staff, they highlight several issues with the plan, in particular the total lack of security in what could best be described as a makeshift camp of prefabricated shelters on the newly settled Gansireed. There are very few security checkpoints, no walls, no perimeters, and guards are limited to the use of poor quality handheld scanning devices and visual checks. The populace, tired, displaced and hungry are more concerned with feeding their family and there have been bountiful cases of residents turning each other in just in an attempt to gain access to the extremely limited ration supplies.

Initial reports for the first two months indicate that this program has found no evidence of any Tleilaxu infiltrators, has caused only disruption to honest security efforts as they're required to constantly respond to false sightings, and admits that if there were Tleilaxu infiltrators on Gansireed, there would be very little the House Guard could do to detect them, nor prevent them from accessing anywhere except for the vicinity of the Baroness, but even that remains questionable at the admission of the Warmaster himself.

In a private meeting, the Warmaster Ludwig cautions the Baroness about repeating the paranoid mistakes of her father, and urges her to focus on the important steps of ensuring House Alexin's people have shelter, food, and personal safety, otherwise the safety of the Baroness and House Alexin will continue its cycle of dooming itself.

The initial survey by the geographic team indicates that Alpha Centaur Prime has what appears to be several large deposits of Cheram 276, a raw material that is high energy carbon used most significantly in the end process of power cells such as batteries and emergency power supplies. Cherman 276, while not in great demand throughout the Imperium can certainly become a valuable commodity if careful steps are taken to edge it into the market and replace other producers. The apparent size of the deposits lead surveyors to believe that there are sufficient quantities of the raw material on Alpha Centauri Prime that it could support an Imperium Grade Industry if sufficient investment and development of equipment and resources are made by House Atreides.

After the assignment of resources to the project, Mentats begin the complicated process of preparing the project to break ground with the fastest possible time. The original plans for construction would see the project completed in a further 6 months (3 turns), but with the offer of slave labour in the amount of 5 units, and if no regard is made for the wellbeing of the slave, it is estimated work could be completed within 4 months (2 turns); however a high quality of the work cannot be gauranteed under such circumstances but construction engineers believe it would be of adequate quality.
