Title: A whole new world
Type of RP: Internal Faction (Consensual)

Story:

Taking her first steps on Gansireed was strangely liberating, despite it only being the basic space port the Spacing guild had placed on the planet. It was new, clean and it felt right to her. The shackles of Eirdanos, however self-imposed, were now all but off. The people she brought with her remained loyal to her when they could have so easily abandoned her family. They were tired, they were exhausted in fact, but they were hers. She knew her family had a long road ahead but she was determined to travel it with dignity and honour.

She had been mentally preparing for this day, already troops were setting up a small platform from which she would be addressing her subjects. Her eyes fell to the floor as the pyons debarked the freighter that had brought them to this new world. They were asked by members of the House guard to remain calm and orderly. Slowly though they were ushered forward, towards the platform behind which she now waited.

A thin line of troops protected the podium and them Baroness mentally ran through her speech one more time. Every time she ran through it in her head the words got slightly jumbled and she grew more nervous. Eventually though she found herself out of time and, as though she were no longer in control of her legs, was walking up the platform without knowing she had begun walking.

Smiling at the pyons she glanced at the floor and let out a low breath of air before deliberately looking around the crowd. She looked at as many faces as she could for a second before she began speaking, “My faithful subjects. Not so long ago a man killed a corrupt leader, that man was then persecuted for his actions. That persecution led to violence, suffering and eventually death. More blood has been spilt than I care to think about. These deaths have left our house a crippled mess... And so now we must all sacrifice for the common good” A slight murmur made her guards tense, but she ignored it and continued to look into as many eyes as possible while she spoke. “Unfortunately this will not be easy. Our first priority is to make ourselves self sustaining, to that end I have commissioned a survey of the planet. This survey shall take 4 months and it shall tell us where the safest and most advantageous land is, which means we have 4 months to prepare ourselves for the rigours ahead. I have brought with us supplies of food and medicines that shall be rationed and shall spend what remains of our wealth on importing any food that we need. This means free, but limited food for as many of you as is possible. To some this will be a luxury, but for this luxury there will be a price! Firstly we shall begin chopping down wood for future construction projects, which means any able bodied man will be expected to chop wood. While we wait women will be expected to repair clothing, to cook and to help tend to the young and elderly. When the survey is complete and our time to rebuild is here you will all be expected to work, to build your homes, our roads and whatever else we need for free until we are self sustaining. Throughout that period I shall do whatever I can to continue feeding you and once we have our own farmland operational and are self sustaining”

The crowd murmured but Baroness Alexin was still too young to accurately read the mood and so didn't try. The House Guards surrounding her didn't seem to move but they were already tense after the horrors of rebellion, and so she truly had no idea how she was recieved. She just hoped people would be too busy to be unhappy.

Summary:

The Alexin people have landed on Gansireed.

It has been announced that all able bodied men will be expected to cut down wood from the nearest forest, this wood is to be saved and until the Gansireed survey is complete and the Alexin people can found their new city.

It has been announced that all able bodied women will be expected to make and repair clothing, cook for the men and tend to the eldery, sick and the young.

It is hoped that by keeping the pyons busy they will not have time to think of rebellion and that civil unrest will be kept low.

GM Ruling:
Approved. This may continue to be written as the player deems necessary.
With the arrival of the fleeing remains of House Alexin from Eirdanos, the settlers numbered in the mere thousands begin to settle a primary location identified by the Guild prior to the Gansireed Survey. Bringing battered supplies and whatever they could load onto the Guild Frigates in leaving Eirdanos, initial stocktakes indicate that there are sufficient stores and equipment for the settlement to construct a basic but sufficient town which should be completed in a further four months (2 turns) with the allocation of 5 units of Raw Materials and 5 units of Industrial Components.

Until a farming system has been established, the settlement will require 2 units of Foodstuffs per month to survive. Plans to construct a farming system indicate that it would take six months (3 turns) with the allocation of 3 units of Raw Materials and 4 units of Industrial Components to construct an adequate system once the town has been completed. The few remaining survivors suggest that focus be placed on the establishment of the town first as there are abundant food supplies to last. If, however, food supplies are saught to be established immediately by the Baroness, then construction efforts for the town can be divided and refocused into food supply, at which point the town construction will require eight months (4 turns) to complete the town and the farming system ten months (5 turns) to complete.

House Alexin gains +2 to its Domestic Respect Rating and is no longer under Civil War or Civil Disorder.

GM Ruling:
PAID: 5x Raw Materials, 5x Industrial Components
Approved. This may continue to be written as the player deems necessary.
With the allocation of resources, the construction of the first major settlement on Gansireed has begun construction and engineers predict that a basic settlement of community shelters, wells and small warehouses was initially planned to be completed after a further 2 months (1 turn), however this has been delayed by rising issues. Whilst the construction has proceeded with relatively little issue to begin with, Doctors are alarmed by the absence of allocated foodstuffs for the population that has arrived on Gansireed, particularly after Mentats advised the Alexin family that food was required to be allocated. The majority of the population has begun to show signs and symptons of early starvation, and Doctors flatly warn that House Alexin cannot afford to lose any of its already miniscule population, and that if not addressed immediately, there will be a large number of deaths.

Military advisors warn that on Gansireed, with no static defences, starving soldiers, and a starving population, that should another uprising begin, it will spell the complete collapse of the House Guard. With increased fatigue and numbers of sick on the construction project, estimated time to completion has been delayed and revised project plans will see the settlement completed in a further 4 months (2 turns).

Title: A whole new world
Type of RP: Consensual (internal faction)

Story:

Walking through the construction site, Baroness Alexin sighed at the dismal sight. She glanced at her uncle and he replied with an understanding nod but the party continued in silence. The slow process was bad enough but the crippling inefficiency and incompetence of her House was another, and it was the latter which plagued her thoughts. Around her she could see nothing but starving men, women and children struggling to survive.

In comparison Zoya and her entourage were well fed, well rested and an outsider comparing the two groups on appearances alone would surely think them two completely different species. The group rounded another corner and left the construction site before stepping aboard a 'thopter that would whisk them back to the star port and their temporary accomodation.

As the 'thopter flapped it's way towards the star port the group sat in silence. Most looked guiltfully at the deck plating, not that guilt would stop them from eating like kings back at the star port. The young woman stood up and kept her balance as best she could.

“Well I think we can all feel shame at what we have just seen, and from the reports I receive I think we can all acknowledge that the House guard won't protect what few of us are left should the mob finally snap”, she allowed the terrible mental images of what the peons would do to them if they were to rise up play out in their minds for a moment, “Now we need to feed these people”

The young Baroness paused, she was very close to repeating herself but considered it a sign of weakness, a ruler should only have to issue orders once. And she'd given similar orders several months ago but before she could continue a young aristocrat from Eirdanos cut in.

“And how will we distribute this food? The House Guard is short on officers... Unless you're suggesting we deliver it ourselves?”, at his own remark he laughed and two others joined him but the laughter was short lived, and then silence returned.

“As tempted as I am to send you into a hungry mob I doubt it would be wise to send you alone to feed them. We must show the peons that we are trying to help them, not open ourselves up to attack. If they kill one aristocrat what then do they have to lose by killing 2 or 3 or 4 or all of us? No the House Guard shall distribute the food. So when we return to the star port the House Guard shall be fed, armed and then I shall lead the convoys, with your help Uncle, and feed my people.” she spared her warmaster a second glance “Uncle?”

“Yes m'lady?”

“You are now in charge of feeding the house guard, I expect you to make sure every guardsman is well fed before we depart”

“Yes m'lady”

Within two hours the house guard at the star port had been fed a proper meal and were looking better for it, though no one would say they looked the epitome of health. They stood guard over half a dozen large containers, containing enough foodstuffs to feed everyone on the construction site for two days and she'd left orders for all the other peons to be fed by the House Guard while she and Ludwig travelled the short distance to the construction sight and fed those peons.

The guardsmen looked a little nervous, but they held themselves straight and Ludwig assured her they were all good soldiers. Then before more could be said 'thopters took off and hovered over the large containers while they were secured via chains to the underside of the 'thopers.

As the work was nearing an end the Baroness and her own escort, made up of 5 guardsmen and Ludwig, stepped onto their ornithopter and waited for take off. The mood amongst the guardsmen outside the thopter was good. Most were nervous but some of the veterans made jokes while they worked and it was becoming somewhat infectious. The men were happy to be working she realised. She could well understand it, she herself sometimes felt like she was simply waiting for death to take her.

When the last container was finally secured the ornithopters began to rise and for a heart stopping moment it seemed to the young woman as though the weight of the containers would be too great for them, but then they cleared the ground and all was fine.

Then the thopters lurched forward, the Baroness checked her watch. 50 minutes ago two platoons had headed off to assemble everyone on the construction site and prepare for their arrival and she hoped everything had gone off without a hitch. If it had gone ahead as planned then about now the platoons should have assembled the peons and prepared a perimeter for the containers and the Baroness.

She was tempted to ask her uncle to get her a situation update but knew if anything had happened the platoon would have reported it, the fact was the peons were probably too exhausted to do much more than sigh.

Her brief reverie was interrupted by the sounds of life and she glanced out of her window to see a great crowd of almost a thousand people assembled, and the House Guards small line looked awfully thin. She did her best to stave off fear and look calm. Eventually the signal came that it was safe to land and the cargo containers were lowered and the wires released before her own touched down and her guard tumbled out, followed by Ludwig and then herself.

Ludwig glanced around somewhat anxiously but he said nothing, in private he had urged her not to come with him but she had insisted and explained that she thought it vital the peons saw her, and not some other ambitious aristocrat as being the one who was feeding them and who cared for them.

The commander of the two platoons came running up to her and slammed his clenched fist into his chest in salute. “M'lady the mob knows the drill, they each know they'll receive a bag of foodstuffs that has enough food to will last for two days. But they're a tad worried about where and when the next load of foodstuff with arrive”

Zoya nodded and walked towards the nearest container, “Don't worry, I shall be addressing them”. The guardsman glanced at Ludwig, no one had ordered him to prepare a platform for her and he worried he'd be punished.

“Wait here” the Baroness ordered as she disappeared from view and several minutes later appeared standing on top of one of the containers. Simply staring at the crowd until they realised it was her and a hush slowly fell. Her simple orange dress flapped slightly in the breeze but she mentally decided she looked fine, but realised she had no idea what she was going to say.

“I thank you for your patience. Every two days from now on food shall be brought to you, but only if you work for it. Tomorrow new recruitment offices shall be set up here and in the camp around the starport, these will recruit construction workers, soldiers, cooks, teachers and all the other things necessary for our House to grow strong. You will have to register as labourers, soldiers or whatever else to receive food. Anyone who does not will starve and anyone who shares food with these people will be flogged, we must all work and I shall make sure you do. Anyone found hoarding food will executed”

Nothing was said as she nodded to the officer on the ground, who opened the first of the food containers and began issuing food to the peons. Lots of greedy little hands shot out, and the crowd surged forward. Privately the Baroness feared they'd break the cordon but outwardly she spoke up again, “You are Alexins! Conduct yourselves as such and wait your turn patiently”. There were one or two jeers from the crowd but her words seemed to have calmed sufficiently for the guardsmen to begin passing out the food safetly.

Summary:

  • A delivery of food is taken to the construction site and all of the peons are given two days worth of food rations.
  • Every two days a convoy is to deliver food to the construction site to give the peons more 2 day rations
  • Eventually only peons who are registered will be eligible to recieve food rations. Until then rations are to be delivered every 2 days and dispensed under the watchful gaze of the house guard
