Story:
The soft hum of the repulsor chair in action broke the silence of the hallway of the Aiantis palace. The Marquis had been out of bed for two months but was still not allowed to perform any strenuous activity. Though he longed to jump out of his chair and get back on the practice floor of the guards wing, he was being watched closely by Auckland, the Suk doctor. He had not even been allowed to read the reports of his son's commands over the previous months and Auckland must've predicted his client's heart rate would've made things difficult.
The Suk couldn't have been more wrong, however, and Bolvar himself was surprised by the fact that he was proud of his son's dealings, ruled by inexperience as they might be. In the end, though, Stukav's position as Governor-General had been mostly to annoy the Eleusis general command on Eirdanos and the man excelled in annoying people, but the decision to let him use heavy-handed tactics on the nobility had back-fired.
Although, the opportunity to clean house and install a new military leader with fresh ideas was a welcoming prospect and something that the Marquis could undertake without much physical activity or risk of high blood pressure. As such, he was happy to engage himself lightly in the affairs of his house while he let his son deal with the newly acquired fief. The worst that could happen was that his son learned a lesson in rulership.

The inner courtyard hovered into view and slowly the chair descended the steps. Bolvar's mind was focused on the first candidate waiting below. He wanted the natural sunlight to inspect these men. It was better that way, to inspect their natural physique, their posture and athleticism. And he enjoyed the good weather as much as anyone. Even an iron heart expands a little in heat.

Reviewing the candidates eligible for promotion from within the Aiantis House Guard, the Marquis is presented with a number of options and career specialisations to choose from. Of note however is an older officer that exceeds the average age of the other candidates by ten years; Agar Menmon. An officer with a long career with House Aiantis and a reputation as a strong and capable tactician, but a reputation marred by his disregard for both his troops and acceptable Aiantis practice. Eligible for promotion due to his lengthy service, some advisors are wary of the Marquis appointing an unpopular albiet extremely capable field commander to the role of Warmaster.

• House Aiantis may choose to create its own Warmaster with duel rating to be determined by 2d4
• Or appoint Agar Menmon to the position with the trait Decisive Tactician (+1 to Military actions when present), a duel rating determined by 2d4-2 due to age, and possible unrest amongst the House Guard.

Edwin van Cleef placed his cane against the desk as he sat down in the repulsor chair. He grimaced and then spoke carefully. "I'm not entirely sure if Agar is the right man for the job."
Marquis Aiantis did not even look up and continued reading a report from his son about the situation on Eirdanos. "Oh no?"
"It's the Guard, they don't find him particularly capable." He paused. "They might even be disgruntled."
"Is that so?" Bolvar said. "Well, an unpopular boss is not necessarily a bad boss. If he drills them more than they'd like that's because he knows what he's doing and doesn't care for their opinion."
"Well, maybe someone should care. If not the General, then someone else in the chain of command."
Bolvar glanced up. "You mean me?"
Van Cleef smiled nervously and the Marquis continued reading. "I'm just saying, it might be worht looking into it. If it's drills, then fine. If it's harsh punishment for transgressions..."

Bolvar sighed and put the report down. "Fine. In fact, I'll let you do it. You're the diplomat around here, make yourself useful."
The Envoy rose quickly, grabbing his cane and grimacing slightly as he rested on his bad leg for a moment. "I will, Sir. As you command."
"And if you're wasting time anyway, might as well look into finding out if there are popular candidates. Just in case."
Van Cleef bowed curteously keeping his right leg stretched. "Of course, Sir."

Summary:

• Background checks will be carried out. A full report will be made of the candidate General's Tours of Duty, Commendations and reports from superior officers, if any
• Other candidates will be considered from a Law Enforcement background and someone who is popular with the House Guard
