Title: But It's Our History
Type of RP: Consensual (Internal)
Story:Count Martin Eleusis had spent considerable time over the past few weeks in meetings with various mentats and officials concerning the education of the Eleusinian population. That is not to say that there was interest in the general scientific education of the populace, rather that there was an intent of the new leadership to indoctrinate all subjects as to the granduer and successes of
House Eleusis with an aim to revitalise the esprit de corps of the pyons, bondsmen, freeman and nobles throughout the House. Whilst some would call it propaganda, Martin had found the information on the history of their House to be rather balanced. Something that would hopefully increase the impact of hitting home to those taught the history of just how much their beloved House has achieved.
While scholars, mentats and historians had spent considerable time on writing the new texts primarily for the Eleusinian population, the information would be made available for purchase from across the Imperium. The
Alawī a Haft-chashma Kamar,
Alawī a Jabīra and the
Collected History of House Eleusis were the three primary works which would be used in the hearts and minds campaign, and all works had been approved by Martin and Alex for publication within the last week. It was now a question of dissemination.
It was insufficient to merely publish thousands of copies of the texts and have them distributed and leave it at that. The largest percentage of the Eleusinian population could not read so such a plan would merely enoble the House to those who already have the largest stake in the triumphs and losses of the House. Rather, the bulk of the education needed to be conducted verbally and this had been the discussions for Martin of late. How would they teach all of this new information regarding the growing triumphs of
House Eleusis to the population?
Alex had given this project to Martin as a means of attempting to redeem some lost respect. Martin had taken the fall from grace in stride, but it still ate at him, and he felt somewhat jealous of Alex's apparent abilities. In such a short time, the House under Alex's rule had rose from the fringes of the Imperium to now being an influential member of the Imperial Court while his own reign had ended in disarray and near war. He knew nobles whispered about his failure as a leader, of how he had burnt out and the House was saved by his younger brother. It kept Martin awake a night despite the assurances of Jeanette, his wife. His dishonour gave him drive and focus that he had lost towards the end of his own reign; a resolve to make amends for what was. It was this drive that gave Martin new zeal in tending to the duties assigned to him.
He sat thinking in his study about how to address the issue that he was given to solve. Books for the nobles, maybe films or radio broadcasts for the freemen, bondsmen and some of the pyons, but those in the rural areas didn't not have access to projection theatres, and some didn't even have radios. It was these remote areas he needed to get to somehow. Just then the door to his study cracked open and a child's head peeked in and looked around before smiling at the sight of Martin. With a grin the boy pushed the door open all the way and began running towards Martin who in return slid from his seat down onto one knee and held his arms open.
"
Daddy!" shouted the boy as he ran into Martin's arms. "
I missed you so much!"
Martin chuckled and hugged his four year-old son Alex. "
I missed you too, Alex." he replied.
"
I have to go." said Alex pushing himself away from Martin's embrace. "
Mummy is taking me to the pantomum!" he said excitedly.
"
The pantomum?" asked Martin standing up with a chuckle.
"
Yes! We're going to see a story about a magic lamp and a genie with lots of powers. He can just wink his eyes like this, and poosh! He can make gold appear!" explained Alex getting more and more excited. Just then, Jeannete, the beautiful mother of the boy appeared at the door and smiled at the two. Martin paused and took a moment to smile warmly at his wife.
"
Do you want to come too, dear?" she asked.
"
Not at the moment, my love. I think Alex has just solved my problem for me. I need to speak with some people." replied Martin, turning down the invitation.
Alex ran over to his mother and hugged her around the waist. "
Let's go mummy, before we miss it!"
Jeanette chuckled and pet Alex on the head before looking over to Martin who was now moving behind his desk. "
Solved a problem? Hrmm...there must be something about the name Alex." she said with a wry smile before she left with Alex talking rapidly about the upcoming show. The benign comment stung Martin's ego a little as it touched a raw nerve in his current state of mind.
