Like the proverbial phoenix rising from it's ashes, House Harkonnen stands on the brink of it's return to prominence within the empire. Many times in their storied past the Harkonnens have been believed vanquished, yet still they have always returned. Now they are poised to do so again, and are doing it in grand style.

House Ophelion has recently opened its new drugs and pharmaceutical industry on Dendros, now making them the biggest producer of medical suppliers in the Imperuim. The project, ongoing for over two and a half years, has seen massive investment into planetary infrastructure, research facilities and factory sectors. Not only has this improved the drugs industry, but the investment has lead to a massive increase in industrialisation and boosted the local economy to increased efficiency and output.
Several Houses Minor have lodged formal pleas with the Landstraad today over fears that un-named Houses are stockpiling food stuffs . Although no official shortages have yet been declared, there has been a significant shortfall in food stuffs available this month. Analysts have put the increase in demand for food stuffs over the past months as temporary increase for redevelopment projects and maintenance of House food stockpiles. Local markets are still healthy and food stocks are no still well above critical levels.

House Venport have “politely declined” an extensive House Ordos diplomatic trade and investment deal. The venture capital deal, worth up to over 100,000 solarii capital investment, was to target expanding existing production and research facilities to increase output and efficiency. Also offered was an additional exclusive trade scheme that would link the two Houses economies closer together. In an official Venport statement, the reason for the rebuttal was that the talks were "at too early a stage for such a deal", but that "discussion is still ongoing over potential future joint efforts".

The Empire wide economic crises in CHOAM took on ever more ominous tones this week as auditors discovered underhanded dealings by one of our own directors. In an announcement to House Alman, later made public before the Landsraad, it was made known that CHOAM auditors had discovered that records had been falsified to try and frame the Almans for spice hoarding. They further revealed that the source of these falsified records was none other then House Poritrin.

Houses Eleusis and Ordos
In what has been described by political analysts as an unexpected move, House Ordos and House Eleusis have signed what has become known as the Treaty of Olionis Prime. The treaty was unforeseen by political analysts due to the recent diplomatic blunders by House Eleusis’ former ruler, the now Count Martin Eleusis, when he ordered the invasion of the Ordos fief of Essen within the Ilm Region.
In a stunning move following on from our last report, the Imperial House Corrino assembled their finest Mentats to put forward their case within the CHOAM Directorate in a bid to enact the Throne’s earlier announcement during the Landsraad General Plenary that Houses Atreides, Maros, Poritrin and Ziyaira would be removed from CHOAM’s governing body.
The recent announcement of the dismissal of several CHOAM Directors by the Padishah Emperor before the Landsraad had boosted opinion polls across the diplomatic body, and many believed that appointing some of the strongest supporters of economic growth such as Houses Eleusis, Ordos, Wikkheiser and Leontis, would usher in a new era of CHOAM stability and growth.
New CHOAM Directors
In a formal declaration before the Landsraad Congress during the General Plenary, Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV has dismissed just under half of CHOAM’s Board of Directors. Citing inactivity in Board debates, disinterest in economic affairs and dereliction of duty in the face of economic and political crises, the Emperor and largest shareholder dismissed Houses Atreides, Maros, Poritrin and Ziyaira.
CHOAM Corporation
After the dismissal of the Landsraad congress for a brief recess before mass-debates began, rumours that Emperor Shaddam IV had already begun the process of restructuring and reshaping the current CHOAM Board of Directors began to spread like wildfire throughout the Royal Court.

CHOAM again is under attack from Landstraad members, as its role within the Imperuim is once more brought into question. Until recently, criticism of CHOAM's Directorship has been isolated and lacking conviction. However, its failure to regulate an economy in recession, deal with the increasing product shortages and its inactivity to respond to these issues have compelled more Houses and prominent figures to speak out.

In recent months the public clamor has been steadily increasing over the seeming inability, or unwillingness, for the CHOAM Board of Directors to actually manage the Empires markets. It comes as no surprise given growing number and variety of economic criseses which have rocked the greater and lesser Houses. What started as minor economic discomfort has now grown to possible recession and a feared collapse of our entire financial system.

Once again the Empire faces a shortage of important goods. On top of the recently noted shortage of slave labor due to the fall of Geidi Prime, we must now contend with an even more serious lack of munitions making it to market. While some might see this as a good thing, i.e. a lack of ability for the various houses to engage in wastefull wars, most of the greater and lesser Houses are quite alarmed by this turn of events.

Perhaps unsurprisingly to the movers and shakers of the Imperium, House Alexin has recently given its two CHOAM shares to the great House Eleusis, which had significantly increased the voting and economic power of the former technocrats, weakening the already unstable House Alexin. With six shares, the Eleusis family has increased its voting power by 33%, passing over the great House Teranos and the Ixian Confederacy, both having five shares each, catching up to Houses Atreides, Maros and Leontis – once considered the most prosperous and stable families in the Landsraad.

In a stunning announcment from the Guild directors, the nobility and great schools of the Empire learned of significant increases in the prices for the coming years shipping fees. Accross the board rate increases have been put into effect which raises the prices that everyone wishing to do business in the Empire must bear. In some cases these increases can amount to more then a 300% hike that leaves many of the smaller houses wondering how they will manage to keep doing business.

It has recently come to light that the much trumpeted Guild Gold Line, a vital component of passenger and freight traffic, has been seriously undermanned in recent months. While the cause of this lapse is currently unknown the results are all too clear. Conservative estimates put the economic damages to affected users in the neighborhood of 1,200,000s.

Despite numerous obstacles House Wikkheiser has ended the long spice drought which has gripped the great houses of the empire. Earlier today some 40 lida of spice was delivered to the markets of Choam. This was natually greeted with relief from many quarters but it is still tempered with great misgivings from others.

House Poritrin’s new range of fabrics has set the scene for open economic conflict as it continues to expand into neighbouring markets. House Poritrin, already one of the largest economies and a major CHOAM shareholder, has invested heavily into developing a new silk based fabric that changes colour to adapt to its environment. Sources inside of House Poritrin recently leaked sensitive information that House Corrino had been offered an exclusive wardrobe of the new silk in a bid to gain an edge over the current market leaders and current CHOAM luxury goods charter holders, House Leontis.

The Ixian Confederacy, one of the leading economies in the Imperium renowned for its technological advancements and one of the largest manufactures of industrial and high tech goods, is facing serious scrutiny over how healthy its economy really is. Leaked production reports seem to suggest that the state of the Ixian Confederacy's economy is much worse than previously thought with documents describing production levels 15% lower than previous official records indicated.

The newly invested Baron Maksimilian Harkonnen has come under fire in the first few months of his leadership with accusations that the aid programme instituted on Giedi Prime has been apathetic at best.
