Death on Eridanos

Embattled Count Markov Alexin found dead
Turn:
127

After several months of insurrection on Eridanos, the man regarded by many as having pushed the fief to the brink of civil war has been found dead. Count Markov Alexin has died of an apparent accident within his family residence. This leaves his young son, na-Count Klaus Alexin to apparently inherit a world in turmoil.

Those who have kept abreast of recent history on Eridanos will no doubt remember how Markov originally came to power in a messy coup that alienated many of the supporters of his predecessor. These supporters, unable to reconcile themselves with Markov, eventually took up arms and refused to recognize his government. Despite some effort on House Alexin's part that situation remains true to this day.

The situation had gotten so bad that many in the Landsraad, including the Emperor judging by recent comments, were in doubt that the Alexin's could salvage their power base. In recent weeks many harsh words, threats and condemnations have been heard within the halls of government. This came to a head when the Throne authorized House Eleusis to send troops in support of the Alexin's after an appeal by the later for aid in the Landsraad.

How the Count's demise will affect the situation on the ground is unknown at this time. There was some fear initially that perhaps the rebels had successfully assassinated the Count, or, that some unknown house was behind his death and trying to profit from the confusion. Both scenarios are vehemently denied by Alexin representatives who insist that the Count's demise was an unfortunate accident. It is hoped that his son, if recognized by the Emperor as the new Count, will be able to sway the rebellious elements on Eridanos.
