House Harkonnen Returns to Power

The New Baron Reclaims Geidi Prime
Turn:
132

Like the proverbial phoenix rising from it's ashes, House Harkonnen stands on the brink of it's return to prominence within the empire. Many times in their storied past the Harkonnens have been believed vanquished, yet still they have always returned. Now they are poised to do so again, and are doing it in grand style.

Their most recent troubles can only be considered to be self inflicted. The former Baron Vladamir, well known for his brash excesses, finally pushed his luck too far and fell from grace. Not only were his failures glaring on the home front, but the troubles he caused actually forced His Majesty the Emperor to remove him from power. Such a thing had not been seen in recent history, which only showed how low the houses fortunes had sunk.

Under Vladimirs inept leadership, the vital slave trade on Geidi Prime was nearly destroyed. Coupled with an epic plague which ravaged the population, both slave and free born, and Vladimirs poor policies his homeworld descended into violent anarchy. Bold action was needed if any semblance of order was to be established.

At this point Maksimillian Harkonnen, distaff relation to the former Baron entered history. Siezing the initiative before the old Baron was even removed he began a coup designed to remove the ineffective leader of his house. Now, it would appear he has succeded. In a few short months time House Harkonnen has gone from the brink of disaster to making their first grand steps back from the abyss. At the time of this writing the situation on Geidi Prime is being stabalized, in large part with the help of the Saduakar, and the Harkonnens are making strides in restoring the slave population and creating new industries.

No one can say yet what the future might hold for the recently disgraced Harkonnens. One thing that can be said though with some certainty is that at no time in history has one regime fallen so far so fast, only to land on their feet again with such strength of purpose. It is yet to be determined if the new Baron can restore the gloires lost by his predecessor, but based on recent events it would seem he has a good chance. Soon the Saduakar will be leaving Geidi Prime, and by all indications the Harkonnens will be ready to return to business as usual.
