The New Shogun

Shogun Li-Han Ziyaira, after recent set backs in his family's fortunes, has decided to step down in favor of his son Shen Ziyaira. This after the family ceded control of the governorship of Arrakis and had gone into a brief period of isolation from galactic affairs. It is not known why exactly the old Shogun chose to lead his family down this road, especially considering the close ties he enjoyed with the Imperial House. What is known though is that he is the one responsible for bringing his house out of the shadow of fundamentalism and into a Golden Era of respect.

Hopes are high for the new Shogun and every indication shows that he enjoys wide support among the minor nobility of the Ziyairan fiefs. How this will be viewed by the Throne though is as yet unknown. It was felt by many that the family was spared the worst of the backlash from their failure to maintain spice quotas because the mother of the Imperial Heir hails from their family.

It might be true that the Emperor will be in a forgiving mood. The same might not be said of the nobles of the Landsraad. Ziyaira's retreat from Arrakis and Imperial affairs caught most by surprise and caused serious difficulties for many. How forgiving they might be or how willing to work with the House in the future remains to be seen.
