Shake-up in the CHOAM Directorate
Houses Atreides, Maros and Poritrin dismissed from CHOAM Directorate
Turn:
128 After being reminded by the Spacing Guild that CHOAM bylaws required a resolution voted on by Directorate could legally dismiss the inactive Directors, the Imperial House struck back and called for an emergency resolution to suspend the CHOAM bylaw that prevented the desired changes in order to carry out the Emperor’s decree.
Reports from inside CHOAM indicate the Directors were locked in a two week discussion regarding the crisis and how the board should proceed; removing the bylaws until the resolution of the cris would be an unprecedented move and a bold one to be proposed by the Imperial House. Sources say that the Imperial House and the Ixian Confederacy worked in tandem to see the resolution pushed through; both citing that something had to be done rather than be bogged down in bureaucratic red-tape.
What followed within the Directorate was a surprising return of House Poritrin and House Ziyaria to the debate after they had remained silent on all Directorate affairs for over a year. Analysts have already pointed out that this was not unexpected – a CHOAM Directorship clearly shows one in a position of economic and political power – and the fact the two Houses were facing dismissal from the Directorate, it was anticipated that they would break their long reigning silence and inaction.
Amid the recently erupted case where House Poritrin’s CHOAM delegates attempted to use CHOAM resources to frame House Alman for illegal melange stockpiling, House Ziyaria announced its implicit involvement in the affair and resigned from the board immediately – a statement confirmed to the Shareholders by the Chair of the Directors.
After much intense debate amongst the Directorate, voting was tallied late into the night, including two recounts but all results showed the same; the resolution, while significantly changed from the first proposal, had passed with the final result of three votes for, two against and one abstain. With the resolution passed, Houses Atreides, Maros and Poritrin had lost their Directorships while moments later, Marquis Alexander Eleusis was appointed to the CHOAM Board of Directors.
From information released by the CHOAM administration, the resolution shall be on ongoing process to keep the Directorate small, and to review further possible appointments to the board such as the Imperial House’s nominations of Houses Leontis, Ordos and Wikkheiser, if and when needed to aid in the further economic growth of the CHOAM Corporation.
It is clear the CHOAM Board, suffering from apparent corruption, complacency and inaction was stirred into action after intense criticism from the Landsraad. Under the leadership fo the Imperial House the board acted to remove elements from within CHOAM that were stifling growth or even preventing the cessation of the economic downturn. It is undisputed amongst both economic and political analysts that this deftly executed move by the Directorate was within the best interests of the Empire and many are welcoming of such action believing it to be a catalyst of a long overdue restoration of profit stability for the Empire's delicate economy.
